A triumphant Andy Priaulx after winning race 2
The grid for the second BTCC race of the day from Silverstone was determined by the fastest lap times from race one. Mat Jackson started in pole position alongside Jack Goff on the front row. Andy Priaulx and Aron Smith started on row 2 with Andrew Jordan and Gordon Shedden on row 3. James Cole and Rob Collard started on row 4 with Sam Tordoff and Matt Neal on row 5. Team BMR RCIB Insurance team-mates Jason Plato and Colin Turkington started on row 6.
As the lights went out to start the race it was a great getaway for pole-sitter Mat Jackson in the Motorbase Performance Ford Focus with Andy Priaulx beating Jack Goff into the first corner to take 2nd place with Goff 3rd, Aron Smith 4th, Andrew Jordan 5th and Gordon Shedden 6th. These six cars led the way in the early laps but the top four started to pull away and by lap 4 they were over a second ahead of 5th place man Andrew Jordan in the MG 888 Racing MG 6GT and Gordon Shedden 6th in the Honda Yuasa Racing Civic Type R. Meanwhile, championship contender Jason Plato was being held up back in 12th place.
Mat Jackson was unlucky to suffer a puncture whilst running 2nd
On lap 6, the duel between Jack Goff in the MG 6GT and Aron Smith in the Team BMR RCIB Insurance Volkswagen CC got really intense and in the process, Mat Jackson and Andy Priaulx were able to open a small gap at the front. Priaulx took the lead on lap 8 however the battle for the lead allowed Jack Goff and Aron Smith to close back up on the leaders. Further down the field, Adam Morgan set the fastest lap in his WIX Racing Mercedes Benz A-Class while running 15th.
By lap 13 the top four were over two seconds ahead of 5th placed Andrew Jordon and 6th placed Gordon Shedden as Dave Newsham retired his Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze at the side of the track. On Lap 15, Jason Plato moved up to 9th when he passed his Team BMR RCIB Insurance team-mate Colin Turkington and Mat Jackson suffered a front left puncture, forcing him to pit from 2nd place. This moved Jack Goff up to 2nd, Aron Smith to 3rd, Andrew Jordan to 4th and Gordon Shedden 5th whilst moving title hopefuls Matt Neal to 6th and Jason Plato to 8th.

At the finish, it was a comfortable win for Andy Priaulx in the Team IHG Rewards Club BMW 125i M Sport with Jack Goff a worthy 2nd and Aron Smith 3rd. Gordon Shedden finished 4th with Matt Neal 5th, Sam Tordoff 6th and Jason Plato 7th. Shedden has now extended his championship lead to 25 points over Jason Plato while Matt Neal has closed the gap to Plato to just 11 points with Colin Turkington a further 6 points down.
The reverse grid draw for the final race of the day will see James Cole in pole position, giving Motorbase Performance their 3rd pole of the day. Joining Cole on the front row will be Rob Collard in the WSR-prepared JCT600 Racing with GardX BMW 125i M Sport with Colin Turkington and team-mate Jason Plato on row 2. Row 3 will be taken by Sam Tordoff and Matt Neal with Gordon Shedden and Aron Smith on row 4. Jack Goff and Andy Priaulx will start on row 5.
