British Touring Car Championship
Brands Hatch (GP) Preview - WIN TICKETS!
Sam Tordoff currently leads the Drivers' Championship by 11 points |
After 27 races at 9 venues around the country, the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will be decided over the last three races of the year when the teams head to Brands Hatch in Kent on October 1st and 2nd to race on the iconic 'GP' circuit. With a maximum of 67 points available from the final meeting, eight drivers have a mathematical chance of lifting the Drivers' Championship trophy and the competition could hardly be any closer.
Currently leading the championship on 278 points is Sam Tordoff. The Team JCT with GardX driver has performed consistently throughout the season and is well placed to take his maiden Drivers' Championship title. His challenge is that he is only 11 points ahead of defending champion Gordon Shedden who has had a run of good form recently which, if carried into the Brands Hatch GP meeting, could prove to be a real threat to Tordoff. If Shedden is triumphant, he will be the first driver to successfully defend his BTCC title since Fabrizio Giovanardi in 2008.
A mere 2 points behind Shedden in the standings is his Halfords Yuasa Racing team-mate Matt Neal with Tordoff's team-mate Rob Collard just 4 points further adrift and 17 points off the out-right lead. Currently 5th in the championship, Motorbase Performance's Mat Jackson also has a realistic opportunity to lift the coveted trophy for the first time. Andrew Jordan is 6th in the standings and only 10 points behind team-mate Jackson. Completing the championship contenders are Silverline Subaru BMR Racing team-mates Colin Turkington and Jason Plato - a fantastic achievement for the Levorg GTs first year in the BTCC.
In addition to the three final races of the 2016 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship which headline the event, there will be full support programme including the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup, Renault UK Clio Cup, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Simpson Race Products Ginetta Junior Championship and MSA Formula Championship - a full programme of motorsport at one of the UK's most iconic circuits.
Adult tickets for race day (Sunday) start from just £27 if booked online (£35 for weekend admission) with FREE admission for accompanied children under 13 all weekend. Visit the Brands Hatch web site or call the Ticket Hotline on 0843 453 9000 for tickets to what is guaranteed to be a thrilling finale to another fantastic year for the BTCC.
