The Inside Track with Silverline Subaru BMR Racing: Looking forward to Oulton Park this weekend
By Team BMR / MJP Media | 30 May 2016
After a difficult time for us, we hope to have much better news at Oulton Park this weekend!
It was with great disappointment that Silverline Subaru BMR Racing withdrew from rounds 7, 8 and 9 at Thruxton on safety grounds. Following the incident with James Cole at Donington Park where there was a failure of the high pressure fuel rail there was a re-designed and re-manufactured component fitted to all of our cars for the Thruxton event. Following a review of the new design post qualifying, the new part showed signs of fatigue that could lead to a similar failure.
Having investigated all avenues available to us overnight and on the Sunday morning, the engineering team had to take the decision to withdraw the cars as none of the solutions available were able to be durability tested prior to competing on circuit. We were obviously disappointed with the outcome, however in this situation the risk to the drivers, other competitors and circuit officials was not acceptable so the correct decision was to retire the cars for the remainder of the event.
Despite all that, at Thruxton we agreed a number of key upgrades ahead of the Oulton Park meeting and we believe that this is when the car will start to translate it's raw abilities into more polished times and results. The cars have certainly got talent and we believe our driver line-up is as good as we could wish for. We suppose it is just unfortunate that a lot of our development work is being done in the public eye.
Jason has seen much of the development work and gives us his view on things: "So far this season I have just been taking part in public test sessions and really digging down deep into the car to figure out what works and what doesn't work. Due to not having any pre-season testing we have had to build this pool of data between all of us. As has been apparent there is nothing wrong with the chassis - that is working very well so far. I'm confident that the BTCC technical experts will do their sums and then give us the tools to fight at the front properly."
"There is a reason why we chose this car and this layout - we know it has the potential to be a real game changer!" he continued. "We'll be stronger at Oulton Park and I'm confident that will see us take another significant step forward towards the front. We will get podiums and win races this season - I'm sure of it."
We agree with him on this. Most teams with new cars see the same development issues, it is just that theirs are pre-season and in private. We will come good - you can bet on that. See you all at Oulton Park this weekend!
