Thruxton - Race Report - 20/09/20

Tom Ingram took two victories with a near faultless performance at Thruxton, whilst Turkington suffered and Sutton prospered to take over the championship lead!
Tom Ingram took 2 victories in the Toyota
Cammish pressured Ingram throughout the first race with the Honda Civic Type R quicker towards the end of each lap, whilst the Toyota pulled clear in the early sectors. It was a game of cat and mouse for the 16-laps duration, with Ingram's 'lively' Toyota often getting two wheels on the grass on the exit of Church.
Honda star Cammish made one last attempt through the chicane on the final tour but Ingram held on to take a popular victory, whilst Neal continued his incredible run of scoring a Thruxton podium every year since 2002. Sutton held fifth and with it the championship lead by a single point
Ash Sutton took 3 good finishes and now leads the title race
In race 2 it was Ingram again in the Toyota who was able to lead from the lights to the flag in a hugely impressive victory as he again dominated the works Honda's of Matt Neal and Dan Cammish who finished second and third respectively, but it was behind them that the Championship battle was really taking a turn for the better.
Ash Sutton had had another blinding race to finish 4th, whilst Colin Turkington could only manage 13th and this allowed Sutton to extend his new found title lead over the defending champion. Once again Rory Butcher in the Ford had a great race finishing 5th and joining Sutton and Turkington in a 3-way battle for the title.
An awful Thruxton sees Turkington surrender the championship lead
The final race of the day proved to be just as exciting as the first two but the battle for the race win was a one team affair with the 2 Honda Civics of BTC racing fighting tooth and nail for the whole 16 laps with Josh Cook taking victory from team-mate Tom Chilton at the line.
In the title contenders, Rory Butcher was 3rd, Ash Sutton was 4th and Turkington 8th, so we head to Silverstone with Sutton leading the table ahead of Turkington and Butcher with everything in the balance.
