The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the picturesque Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire for rounds 10, 11 and 12 of the 2011 season. Set in rolling parkland, Oulton Park is popular with drivers and fans alike and with fantastic viewing areas always attracts a large and enthusiastic crowd.
Following the recent technical regulation changes announced by TOCA (see article) all eyes will be on the timesheets to see how the new measures address the performance advantage of the turbo-engine powered cars.
Former BTCC champion Matt Neal is predicting a strong showing for his arch rival and defending champion Jason Plato. Of his Honda Racing Team Civic, Neal said "The car is hard on brakes and the track has a lot of stopping and starting. The Chevys are very strong in race trim, so if Jason qualifies at the front then he could win all three."
Lea Wood returns to the BTCC at Oulton Park driving the 2006 BTC-spec Honda Integra he raced in 2010. Dave Newsham joins the Special Tuning Racing team to drive its SEAT Leon alongside Tom Boardman having contested the opening rounds in the Geoff Steel Racing BMW 320si E90. Newsham said "There's a night and day difference in how the front-wheel-drive turbo-charged SEAT feels to the rear-wheel-drive normally aspirated BMW I drove in the opening rounds. There's considerably more oomph from the turbo engine."
Visit the MSV web site for tickets to what is sure to be an exciting event. Alternatively, live coverage of all the racing will be broadcast on ITV4 throughout the day. Regular BTCC updates will also appear in these pages.
